WELCOME TO 2024 AT SMOG

Whether you are a returning member or new to our club, we warmly welcome you to SMOG Netball Club. We are delighted you have chosen to be part of our club for 2024 and we look forward to providing you a wonderful, fun and memorable netball season ahead with SMOG - it is going to be a blast! The information below is a guide for the upcoming 2024 season ahead and we encourage you to visit our website for regular updates as the season unfolds.

THE 2024 NETBALL SEASON

The 2024 season will start on 27 April and run until 31 August. There will be no games on 1 June (King's birthday) or 29 June (Matariki) or on 13 July (for one week of the school holidays).

All games are to be played at Ākau Tangi Sports Centre (formerly ASB Sports Centre) in Kilbirnie, Wellington with 16 games in total to be played throughout the 2024 season. Games are also played through the university holidays and if you are a student, it is expected that you are available to play these games.

TEAM TRAININGS

Most team trainings are held indoors at Ākau Tangi Sports Centre, scheduled for Thursday evenings anytime between 6pm-10pm. Due to capacity constraints at Ākau Tangi Sports Centre, another venue has also been secured for Tuesday evenings. Once you are confirmed in your new team, the coach/management will advise you of your teams nominated training slot from the above. Premier Reserve and Senior trainings will be 1 hour. Premier grade trainings will be subject to the coaches discretion.

UMPIRING

All players are required to umpire at least twice throughout the season, and we take this duty seriously as a club. There will be a strong emphasis on umpiring in 2024 and Netball Wellington will be providing training sessions for player umpires. It is a requirement to umpire as a player. Everyone should be comfortable to umpire a game of netball and SMOG will support all players to reach the confidence and competency to do so.

Managers and coaches will be advised each week of your teams umpiring commitments and each team will set their own team rules around shared responsibility towards ensuring your umpiring obligations are fulfilled. Assistance with refining your umpiring skills is available at SMOG, and we will endeavour to run some in-club sessions for all players.

FUNDRAISING

We host a number of fundraising activities at the Club during the season and we request all teams to participate. Events include quiz nights, movie night and assisting with fundraising events. We also apply for annual funding from various avenues with the intention to keep yearly subs as low as possible for our members as well as reducing the efforts required of our members to support fundraising actitivities during the season.

UNIFORMS

All players are provided with a 'loan' playing dress for the season. Dresses are allocated well in advance of the season commencing at your team trainings. There is no extra cost to hire a uniform dress as it is included within your playing fees. However please note that should you lose, damage (beyond normal wear and tear) or alter your hired dress, you will be asked to pay for part or all of the replacement costs (approx $85.00-$90.00).
