SMOG 1 & 2 COACHES FOR 2012

We are pleased to confirm that Ann Hay will again be coaching SMOG 1 this season, and will be assisted by Karen Nimmo.  Those of you who know or have been coached by Ann, will know that she is a fantastic coach and we are delighted to have her at the helm again in 2012.

SMOG 2 will be coached by the awesome and experienced duo of Lindsay Murdoch (CoachForce coach for Netball NZ), who will be assisted by Tania Lister (Netball Development Manager for Netball Wellington).

If you are interested in coaching at SMOG, and rubbing shoulders with these wonderful ladies, please contact us at smognetball@gmail.com.

UNIFORM NEWS

The supplier of our uniforms have informed us that they are no longer able to produce them, which means we have had to rethink they way we provide uniforms to players from next season onwards. As the current uniform was only changed in 2008, we believe it unfair to change it again and expect everyone to buy another so soon.

The club does hold some uniform stock, so all players who require a uniform in 2012 will hire one from the club and return it at the end of the season. This system will continue as long as it is practical.

If you, or someone you know, has a SMOG uniform that is not being used - please consider donating it to the club. A note will be kept of everyone who has donated a uniform (if you were thinking you might hang onto it 'just in case') so we can waive the hire fee for players who need to hire a uniform they donated in the future.

To donate your uniform, or if you want more information, contact Beck O'Shaughnessy at beckosh@gmail.com.

2012 PRE-SEASON INFORMATION

SMOG caters for the highly competitive to social teams.  We will have a maximum of 12 teams in 2012 and will do our best to accommodate all new players to the club in a team that suits their ability best.  Please note that SMOG will not accept any self-entered teams this year.  In the unlikely event (it hasn't happened in recent seasons) that player numbers in the lower grades require us to turn people away, then preference will be given to returning Smoggies.

SMOG's teams will be entered in the following grades, as per their final placings in 2011:
SMOG 1 & 2: Premier 1 - the aim of both teams is to qualify for the Regional Super League at the conclusion of the first round
SMOG 3 & 4: Premier 2
SMOG 5: Premier 3
SMOG 6: Premier Reserve 2
SMOG 7: Premier Reserve 4
SMOG 8-12: Will start the season in the Senior grades.  We are looking to select a strong team in SMOG 8 (and potentially SMOG 9) to make use of the three opportunities to gain promotion to Premier Reserve, as SMOG 7 did last season.

All games will be played at the new indoor ASB Sports Centre in Kilbirnie.  SMOG teams will continue to train outdoors at the Hataitai courts, apart from SMOG 1 & 2 who will have one indoor training a week at the ASB Sports Centre.

TRIAL DETAILS

All trials will be held at the Hataitai Courts. If you want to trial for SMOG 1 or 2, please see this file for additional information: SMOG 1 and 2 Pre-Season Information

All triallists must register on-line before trials. This is now available - please see the REGISTRATIONS page and ensure you register well in advance of trials.

If you are unsure what team to trial for, always trial one grade up. We will advise if you are trialling too high and let you know when the appropriate trials are on.  It is really important that you make it to every trial, as teams may be decided before the end of the trials for each group if it is appropriate.

TRIAL FEE

There will be a $10 trial fee required before you first trial.  Note that if you are required to come back for another set of trials, you will not be charged another trial fee.  Please deposit this into the SMOG netball account with your name as a reference:
St Marys Old Girls Netball Club (Westpac, Cuba Street)
   03-0510-0732703-00

Please note there will be no refunds given.  However, if you are successful in making it into a SMOG team, then the $10 will be deducted from your fees.

Fees for 2012

Total fees for the season (for all players) will be $230, plus a bond if you need to hire a uniform.  We will have payment plans available and will advise you closer to the time when fees need to be paid by.  SMOG has worked hard to keep its fees as low as possible in previous years, however with the move to the new indoor sports centre, the fees we pay to Netball Wellington have increased significantly, resulting in an increase in our fees to fund this.
