2009 NETBALL WELLINGTON REGIONAL COMPETITION - Round 2 UPDATE
There have been modifications to the Format for Round 2, with the departure of the five Premier 1 teams to the Regional Super League. These modifications have been ratified by the Netball Wellington Centre board after consultation since prior to the pre-season meeting, and were deemed necessary due to the issues below.
Issues that were considered and reviewed from the previously outlined competition include:
- The need to reduce the impact of the loss of five teams on all other grades in the competition.
- The need for teams to be able to go up and down after Round 1. The proposed format discussed at the pre-season meeting had six teams going down from each grade to Premier Reserve 4. This was seen as a negative due to the number of teams going down a grade.
- The Challenge Round received mixed feedback with the possibility of teams playing against teams that were two grades above them the week before. This has been modified, but still allows for all 8 teams to be able to finish as the Grade winner.
The new format is as follows:
Division 1
- The Top Grade is named 'Division 1' to reflect that it isn't Premier 1, but captures that it includes the best teams of the teams remaining at the NWC competition. Division 1 will be made up of ten teams including SMOG 2 and Wgtn East 2 (bottom two Premier 1 teams after Round 1 – already completed), the top six Premier 2 teams and the top two Premier 3 teams.
- All games will be played over 4 x 15 minute quarters to strengthen the next level of the Centre competition. Division 1 will play mainly on Court 1 at times similar to Premier 1 in Round 1.
- The Division 1 teams that are playing at 9.20am and 10.40am will be required to supply 8 umpires each for the round immediately following. NWC will endeavour to spread the number of umpiring duties as evenly as possible across all teams.
- There will be a final and a 3 v 4 game to complete Division 1.
Grades Below Division 1
- There will be no movement into or out of Division 1 after round 2 due to the 9 week competition being played in that grade.
- All Grades from Premier 3 and below in the Premier Grades will see the same movement as last year with the top two and bottom two in each grade going up and down respectively.
- The top team in Senior 1A and Collegiate 1A will be promoted to Premier Reserve 4, with the bottom two teams in Premier Reserve 4 being relegated to their respective grades.
- There will be automatic promotion/relegation between teams within Senior Grades (2 teams up and 2 down) and Collegiate (1 team up and 1 down). NWC will consider moving Collegiate teams more than 1 section where the results from Round 1 appear to warrant such consideration.
- Challenge round is revised to reduce mismatches, please see in full attached rules.
Umpires
- 'White' Umpires will be allocated to as many games as possible.
- All other grades besides Division 1 are required to supply 2 umpires for the game immediately following and they must report to the game office prior to the following round.
Franchise Players
To be consistent with the Regional Super League ruling on Franchise players, Netball Wellington Centre is implementing the following eligible ruling on Franchise players in our Centre competition:
- Only two franchise players can be registered to play in any one team.
- A maximum of 3 franchise players can play in any one team during a game, subject to usual playing up rules.
Please contact NWC with any questions.
