Player and Coach discipline

(August 2009) Over the past few weeks, NWC has received several complaints regarding the discipline of players and coaches and the amount of physical aggression has escalated. Please remember to play within the spirit of the game and that both white umpires and player umpires should not be required to tolerate any abuse.

If you have concerns regarding the opposition team, the umpiring (player or white umpires), or abuse from the sideline, please report to the Game Office during the game, and a staff or board member will attend the game and assess the situation.

If you have a situation as a player umpire, which you  believe should not be happening in games please come to the game office also.

Coaches are reminded to remain with the team bench.

SMOG Volunteers needed for the Wellington Marathon

(June 2009) SMOG is providing 28 Course Marshalls for the Wellington Marathon on Sunday 28  June.  This is a phenomenal opportunity for the club to raise over $2000, which is a massive chunk of our fundraising target for the season. And, if we do a great job this year, we are more likely to secure this great fundraising opportunity for future years as well.

We have been given the best section to look after: Westpac Stadium to Freyburg Pool (Section 1).  Each SMOG team needs to provide at least 3 volunteers as Marshalls, who will be required from 6:30am til about 1pm.  If your team has more  than 3 keen volunteers, you can always split the shifts amongst your players.

Please let your Team Managers know if you are happy to help out by Friday 12th June, and watch this space for more info!

Player support needed for Indoor Community Sports Centre

(April 2009) While the Council have approved Cobham Park as the site for the Indoor Community Sports Centre - this is another hurdle.  The Council still have to complete the Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP) consultation round and affordability is expected to be a big issue this year.  There is an expectation that quite a few public submissions will say don't build the sports centre now but defer for a few years.

It is really important that Wellington get a quality indoor sports centre and it is well overdue.  As players and coaches, you certainly know playing outside in a Wellington winter is less than ideal'  That's why SMOG are encouraging all players, coaches, managers and netball supporters to put in a submission on the Council LTCCP.

Just head to the Council website, fill in the basic details, then scroll down to the social recreation section.  Your submission doesn't need to be long - you could just put Indoor Community Sport Centre, we've been waiting for 10 years, let get on with it nowSubmissions are due by 5pm Monday 18 May.

Every little submission of support helps and gets us another step closer to a lovely indoor stadium, where we can really enjoy our netball.

Hold up for Cobham Park Indoor Stadium

(February 2009) There has been a recent hold up in the process for the Cobham Park Indoor Stadium, which would have increased Netball Wellington Centre's ability to hold our competitions indoors and on wooden courts.   Check out the full story here.

Netball and Wellington will benefit greatly by having an Indoor Stadium and it will ensure we have the facilities to host major National tournaments in Netball and other codes. This will also enable Netball Wellington Centre to further develop its competitions and players by having high quality facilities.

Please show your support in writing to the Dominion Post, other media outlets and forward to all your friends to show how much this Stadium means for our club and the Netball Wellington Centre.
