Registration FOR TRIALS

We use an on-line registration process, which is now live.  Go to the Registrations page to do it now.  You will need to complete your on-line registration and pay a $20 trial fee before attending your first trial.  We ask that you aim to do this at least 3 days prior, which will ensure we have all your information and result in a smoother trials day for everyone!  The $20 trialling fee will be deducted from your subs.

If you have any trouble with the on-line registration process, please email smogwebadmin@gmail.com

SMOG Teams For 2011

Based on previous seasons, the number of SMOG teams for 2011 will be approximately 12.  It is our intention to place everyone that trials into a team.

SMOG teams 1 to 6 will be entered in the Premier and Premier Reserve 1 grades, which is determined by their results in the 2010 season.  The number of teams in Senior 1 and Senior 2 grades will depend on the number of players trialling for these grades.

We intend to form some strong Senior 1 teams this season, with the aim of gaining promotion to the Premier Reserve grade during the competition.

Trial Information

Trials for each grade will be held at the Hataitai courts, over three days on a Saturday, Wednesday or Thursday evening and the following Saturday.  Players must attend at least two out of the three trial dates, with one of these being the last trial date, to be eligible for selection into a team.

If you are unable to attend a trial, please contact the Trial Co-ordinators, before the trials you are attending.

All aspects of a player will be looked at to determine which team they are selected for e.g. warm up, fitness, player combinations, skill, coachability, attitude, leadership and team dynamics.  Selectors will be made up of coaches and non coaching selectors.

Teams will be named on the website in the few days following the third trial (for each grade).  In some cases they may be named on the Saturday of the final trial.  Where possible, a meet and greet session for each team will follow soon after, which gives you a chance to get to know your team, your coach and go over other details about training etc.

SELF-ENTERED TEAMS

We are occasionally asked about self-entered teams, however it is SMOG policy to select all teams through a trials process.  You may request to play in the same team as a friend, however please keep in mind:

  • This is only possible at Senior level, and we cannot absolutely guarantee it (although we'll try our best).
  • You should consider that you will be placed in a team in accordance with the player of the least skill level of your group.
  • The benefit of trialling everyone, is that players are put in a team that suits their ability, which hopefully results in an enjoyable season for everyone.

Wet weather

In the event of extreme weather causing play to become dangerous, you will be notified of any change of trials venue, via the email address you supplied with your registration.

In the unlikely event of trials changing due to bad weather, the venue may change to Wellington East College gym and/or the trial may be postponed to the following day.  You will be advised if there are any changes, otherwise trials will still be on at Hataitai courts.
